What is the robot?
The robot is a system consisting of two parts: a) the surgical console where the gynecologic surgeon sits, and b) the system of four robotic arms, onto which the camera and three instruments are mounted. These arms are positioned on the patient through 3–4 very small incisions in the skin. The surgical console is connected to the robotic arms via a cable through which the surgeon’s movements are transmitted from the console to the robot’s arms and subsequently to the tips of the instruments. As a result, every movement performed by the gynecologic surgeon at the console is translated precisely into movements of the instruments operating inside the patient.
