Should I stop drinking alcohol before conception?

A baby develops rapidly during the first weeks of pregnancy, even before the mother knows she is pregnant, so it is best to reduce alcohol consumption. Studies have shown that increased alcohol levels may lead to miscarriage.

A safe level of alcohol for pregnant women has not yet been established, but because the harmful effects of alcohol during pregnancy are well known, women who are trying to conceive and those who are already pregnant should limit alcoholic drinks.
