Breastfeeding

Life Can Become Easier When You Breastfeed. Breastfeeding may require a little more effort at first compared to feeding with formula.

However, once you and your baby settle into a good routine at home, life can become much easier. When you breastfeed, there are no bottles or nipples to sterilize. You don’t need to buy, measure, or mix anything. There are no bottles to warm up in the middle of the night!

You can satisfy your baby’s hunger immediately when breastfeeding. Physical contact is important for newborns — it can help them feel more secure, warm, and comforted.

Mothers can also benefit from this closeness, as breastfeeding has a calming effect and offers relaxing bonding time. Skin-to-skin contact with the baby can boost the mother’s oxytocin levels. Oxytocin is a hormone that supports milk flow and provides a sense of calm to the mother.

Breastfeeding may have beneficial effects on the mother’s health and reduce the risk of the following health issues:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Breast cancer - ovarian cancer
  • Postpartum depression
  • Experts are still researching the effects of breastfeeding on osteoporosis and postpartum weight loss. However, many studies report greater weight loss in breastfeeding mothers compared to those who do not breastfeed.
